I Wrote This For You

And I’ve tried to find happiness in a bigger TV, a car and a watch. I’ve tried to find happiness in power over others and the respect of the people around me.

And I appreciate your patience, while you stand here, right in front of me. Waiting for me to come to my senses.

Natalie Portman

… is the January 2011 VOGUE US cover girl. What a great way to start the year right! I can’t wait to get my hands on the copy. She’s photographed by Peter Lindbergh, which makes me even more excited to see the edits. I’m sure they will be mind blowing.

Seriously, can this girl do any wrong? She’s glowing in her J Mendel gown. Le Sighh. And, she has recently been named as Miss Dior Cherie! Good job, John Galliano!

Pretty Dresses from HK!

Was in Hong Kong over the weekend and scoured over (what else?) H&M. Look what I found!

Lanvin for H&M!!!!!

I’d suppose that the dress gets snapped up and sold out within 10 minutes but hey, I saw two dresses! I didn’t get them (do NOT judge!!!) but was crazy enough to think if I should. The dresses were pretty but not very practical. Where am I going to wear it to?

A lot of tulle, doncha’ think? Reminds me of the Sex and the City scene where Carrie was waiting for Mr. Big.

I preferred this dress to the one above, despite being less hyped. But even then, that’s a very big dress and I am not sure if I can carry it off in Singapore.

But,… I did get myself a dress. A very, very pretty one. I am not sure what consumed me to get it but I now that I need an occasion/party to wear it! I am a broke girl now! 😦

The Maxi Trend

For a while, everyone was crazy about maxi dresses. Gone are the days of barely there hemline; enter ladylike, mature maxi everything. Since the trend hits the runway, maxi dresses/skirts/jumpsuits hit every single retail outlet. Everyone covered up.

Looks like the trend is not going away yet and why not? I love maxi anything. I recently bought a maxi skirt and it’s a great investment piece, if I may say so myself. It covers you up, can be dressed up and down (depending on what you pair it with) and hey, no one’s gonna insult you.

So, here’s my top picks!

Just reading the editor’s notes from Net-a-Porter already makes me fall in love with both Couture dresses all over again!

Credit Card!

“A silver crystal-encrusted bodice and cascading train give Marchesa’s white silk-chiffon gown a dramatic feel. Wear this draped one-shoulder design to a red carpet event or as an eye-catching bridal option.”

“An opulent jewel tone and signature corsage give Lanvin’s violet washed-satin asymmetric gown a contemporary spin. Master the art of modern glamour by pairing this floor-length design with an emerald necklace and cutout heels.”

Debit Card!

Feeling the need to splurge on yourself but not maxed out your credit line? Choose these high-street options!

Cash!

Finally, we have what I’d like to term ” disposable fashion”. It’s just a trend, nothing to get too excited about. So, why don’t we spend some dinner money and forget about it when we get bored of it?

Tom Ford Spring 2011

The pictures from Tom Ford’s September presentation of his Spring 2011  presentation for New York Fashion Week is finally out on the January 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. Shot by Terry Richardson (who was the only licensed photographer for the event, how exclusive!) and attended with the glitterati of the fashion’s world, Tom created a perfect selection for them.

I am quite obsessed with the maxi dress below. The prints are haunting and those gold earrings are the perfect accessory to the opulent, luxe look. Do you like the looks?

Raw and Unguarded

“Go after her. Fuck, don’t sit there and wait for her to call, go after her because that’s what you should do if you love someone, don’t wait for them to give you a sign cause it might never come, don’t let people happen to you, don’t let me happen to you, or her, she’s not a fucking television show or tornado.

There are people I might have loved had they gotten on the airplane or run down the street after me or called me up drunk at four in the morning because they need to tell me right now and because they cannot regret this and I always thought I’d be the only one doing crazy things for people who would never give enough of a fuck to do it back or to act like idiots or be entirely vulnerable and honest and making someone fall in love with you is easy and flying 3000 miles on four days notice because you can’t just sit there and do nothing and breathe into telephones is not everyone’s idea of love but it is the way I can recognize it because that is what I do.

Go scream it and be with her in meaningful ways because that is beautiful and that is generous and that is what loving someone is, that is raw and that is unguarded, and that is all that is worth anything, really.”

Passions are always worth pursuing

It’s with the heaviest of heart that I’ve to announce this – Wonderwool will be ceasing operations in 16A Haji Lane by end of November 2010. We couldn’t come to an agreement with the landlords – unreasonable terms, urghhhs – and thus, we had to leave. We could have picked any other space and move but Wonderwool‘s philosophy stays strong in believing that we want to provide customers a retail experience, not to merely earn profits. We want a shop front that we believe and feel strongly about, just like our current space that everyone raves about!

It’s an obstinate belief but I guess when it comes to passions, you don’t pick otherwise. That’s why we are sticking to our guns while we shed buckets about the big loss.

Thank you everyone for the support, it had been a great journey but we will be back. That, I promise you!

Till we find our new loft!
xx

P.S: The Wonderwool blog will still  be up, so all you lovelies must, must, must check this site up for updates and announcements regularly!

P.P.S: We will be having a 25% discount storewide will the end of November to facilitate our moving!

Vogue + Coco Rocha

Vogue’s peek at Coco Rocha’s apartment is making me lust with envy. Her apartment is purrfect with the right elements of avant garde and down-to-earth quirkiness. I love the teapots!

Anywhere Out Of The World

We scaled the face of reason to find at least one sign
t
hat could reveal the true dimensions of life, lest we forget.

And maybe it’s easier to withdraw from life with all of it’s misery and wretched lies;
away from harm.

We lay by cool still waters and gazed into the sun; and like the moths
great imperfection succored to her fatal charm.
And maybe it’s me who dreams unrequited love;
the victim of fools who watch and stand in line away from harm!

In our vain pursuit  of life for one’s own end; will this crooked path ever cease to end?

What a delightful way to end the month. My trip to Jakarta is phenomenal. Well, we didn’t do anything much but my closer than close friends, lovingly took leave to travel with me on my birthday – what’s not to love? We gorged on food, get high on laughter and overdosed in nonsensical ribbings. I love them so.

2 more months before the end of 2010 – had this year been what you expected?  If not, there’s always time to make up for the lost 10 months! Hurry, grab life by the balls NOW! : )

Love,
Me

Style Rut.

I’ve been bored of my style, I feel as if I am stuck in a rut. I keep shopping and shopping but I don’t feel like I am improving on my looks. You know what I’m talking about?

I’ve chosen some of the street looks that inspires me. Looks of real people, not the works of stylists! I like them simple, fuss-free, perfect for the weather and of course, attainable!

Chloé’s Darla Leather Tote

I first saw Chloé’s Darla Leather Tote in while holidaying in Tokyo. I was drawn at it’s structured shape and how unique it was. It was how I pictured my perfect bag to me – classic, clean, minimal luxe. Somehow, only the Darla managed to get me over my obsession with Mulberry’s Alexa – oh, and the fact that there are so many frickin’ imitations around, urghhs.

But isn’t this bag just darling? 2 months down and I’m still lusting after it.

Sheer Juxtaposition

There’s something about this picture from Me Newton that makes me go, “HMMMM….!”. I love the look, from the sheer skirt, to the exposed undergarments and tougher-than-nails boots. If this girl was walking in Singapore, I’d probably stare and gawk!

Birthday Reflections

I’m entering the wrong side of my 20s and like every other 20-somethings, I’m a little insecure, wary, fearful and yet excited at the amazing possibilities that my life can bring me. Yet, whatever life brings you and I, we know that the pain will always pass and we will end up laughing and appreciating the love that is so abundant.

This birthday, I promise myself to,…

x. Invest in quality fashion items.
No more cheap shopping just because it’s,… cheap. As someone with monetary responsibilities, I will make an effort to luxuriate my wardrobe with timeless, quality pieces that will last through the years.

x. Read more.
I used to be a compulsive reader. I read everything, anything, anywhere, everywhere. With the advent of technology and availability of social media, I somehow stopped reading. Why, I used to ask myself? Reading can be a guilty pleasure but it’s a joy that I will teach myself to partake again.

x. Have a healthy relationship with food and exercise.
I’m not a girl who diets or believes in dieting pills, treatments or methods. I believe in the simple mantra – healthy, balanced diet + exercise. But more often than not, I fall into the trap of wanting to be thinner. What for?

I enjoy my food and as long as I am responsible for what goes into my body – moderation is key-, I want to enjoy eating. Also, I need to start exercising religiously.

x. Friendships & Relationships.
As you grow older, your friends decrease, your social circle diminishes. Whether it’s my choice or a natural progression through adulthood, each year, I am always amazed at how lovely my friends are. I have friends I’ve known for more than decades, they have seen me through my most tumultuous times. Trust me, it ain’t pretty. But every year, on my birthday, I look back and think on how much I love each and every one of them.

As for relationships, obviously my most important one is with my parents. They gave me everything I could possibly want. Maybe, they are not the perfect parents. They can be annoying, silly, upsetting and we go through cycles of arguments, heated words and tears. But I know, at the end of it all, my parents love me the best way they know how to.

x. Confidence.
I know it’s weird saying this on a public domain but although it might not seem the case, I lack confidence and self-esteem. I always have the worry that I am not good enough, that I am just a pretender and everyone else are unable to see my flaws and inadequacies. I worry that if people see that I am not good, then people will start rejecting me.

I need to learn that it’s okay to be wrong, to be imperfect and to embrace the irritating idiosyncrasies that make me,…me. It’s okay if I am not pretty, or do not possess the perfect body, not the smartest or most successful. If I live my life comparing milestones to everyone else, I’d always be miserable.

This birthday, I need to remind myself that all I need in my life is love, a big heart and passions. Everything else is truly secondary.

Jakarta!

Leaving to Jakarta with my friends for a birthday get-away! I can’t wait to over-indulge in great Indonesian food, relaxing, cheap massages and of course, quality time filled with laughter.

No other way I’d like to spend my birthday!

Pssst, I’m missing my mom who’s in China for 2 weeks for work! Of course, Daddy’s birthday in 3 days! Love my parents to bits! 😉

Reminder:

Don’t let fear, a setback, or someone’s recent harsh criticism deter you from your goals or make you doubt yourself. Keep the powerful faith you have always had in yourself burning brightly, because you are so close to a breakthrough.

Strange and Beautiful

Still obsessed with the strange and beautiful mirrors and wall decor objects from Jayson Home and Garden. I am a little crazy over these oddly attractive furniture; many people I showed this too sneered at me.

Oh, you mortals!

Need to Want

Smart, punchy lines with the most simple yet apt illustrations. I’m lovin’ Recovering Lazyholic’s series of Need To Want.

A good reminder on a dreary Tuesday to focus on the cheery side of life. Enjoy! =)

Shearling Jacket

Who isn’t crazy about shearling jackets after Burberry cleverly reinvented and introduced them back? Now, I’m obsessed with it! I was even considering shipping one back at a hefty cost. But really, why do I need a jacket when it’s burning in Singapore?

For those of you who are looking for one though,…it is a perennially cool investment piece that will instantly upgrade every outfit! Go get it!

The original ultimate lust-worthy pieces from Burberry! Can someone give me a spare US$2995?

This Rick Owen camel leather jacket is a classic. I love the cut and the panels. At £1,634, I’d definitely keep it and pass it on to my future daughters!

A high street alternative from NEXT (Yeah, I can’t imagine that I’d be obsessing over a NEXT piece!). The 13 reviews had been positive, averaging on 4.5 stars. Reasonably priced at £75, this is definitely a piece you should consider if you want to be on-trend and break your bank account!

I chanced upon this website again and like the first time round, it’s gold. Stuff No One Told Me has a biting commentary on life but so, so true!

UNIQLO + Jil Sander

Following the success of the first collaboration, German luxury fashion designer Jil Sander is teaming up again with Uniqlo, Japan’s top retailer in basics. The collection, aptly named UNIQLO +J, is a mix of swoon-worthy camel coats, navy jackets and crisp white shirts – items we all need in our closets, no? Items are on sale since 8th October!

Why doesn’t Giordano do collaborations?
